Up Close and Personal with the HFM Presenters
We continue to go behind the mic to find out everything you've ever wanted to know about our presenters!
This week we turn the spotlight on Ian Fraser.....
Find Me on Air: Thursdays 10pm to midnight, with my colleague Tom Lathom, for the SRD Rock Radio Show.
We are “International” also going out (repeated each week) on WOQ 99.1 FM www.980woq.net in Omaha Nebraska, USA, and Radio Utopia www.radioutopia.info in Lisbon, Portugal;
Saturday mornings with Soozie Max for a selection of music and chat about anything that takes our fancy…
Any other time I’m let loose by the management……
First Job: As a student I was employed to sweep out the cellars in the Watney’s Brewery (Mortlake, SW London) after they were flooded (next to the Thames).
Favourite Music: ROCK, then Soul, then anything that catches my attention….
Favourite Food: Sunday Roast Beef, Yorkshire Pudding, Roast Potatoes, with an Apple Crumble dessert….
Favourite Drink: Coffee!! But I am partial to a pint of London Pride on occasions.

Star Sign: Sagitarius
Who is the most famous person you’ve ever met? It’s actually quite difficult to say.
My wife used to work at the BBC and various celebrities would be invited to events we attended, I have also met several well known sportspeople.
Probably I will always most remember meeting George Cohen, one of England’s 1966 World Cup heroes, when I was about ten.
Favourite Holiday Destination: Around Hunstanton on the West Norfolk coast during September, very often good weather, not too busy and not too far from home.
Favourite TV Programme / Film: TV – currently HEROES, I also am fascinated by Strictly Come Dancing…..
Film – loved “The Incredibles”, generally enjoy the James Bond series, Die Hard and Clint Eastwood westerns and “Dirty Harry”
Best Thing about Working at HFM: The chance to fulfill a long held interest in how radio works
Fascinating Fact about Me: When I was still at Primary School, we used to have inter school Chess fixtures. I didn’t know it at the time but subsequently found out that I had beaten the National Schools Chess Champion for our age group - twice….
Your Favourite Pass Time / Hobby: Spending time at home in the garden doing something or nothing with Sarah (my wife) and Anna (my daughter).
I also enjoy all sports, HFM (obviously!) and potentially looking after a dog (Anna wants a pet!), fiddling with my cars and motorcycles, and converting a vast collection of tapes and LPs onto CD.
Most embarrassing (NOT RUDE!) Moment: I can’t think that I have ever been embarrassed as an adult, but my parents frequently tell the story of me falling into a boating lake as a small child (3 or 4?) getting soaked, and not being happy at being dressed in dry GIRL’S clothes……. (luckily it doesn’t appear to have caused any lasting psychological damage)
What made you want to get a job in the radio industry:
I never knew what I wanted to do in life and working in Radio seemed quite enigmatic when I was a teenager.
I never had the chance then, but when HFM first ran an introductory course covering the background to how it came about I saw it as a chance to have a mid life crisis…….
The rest, as they say, is history…..
